Come join our Patient Monitor Observer team at the Sanford Medical Center! You observe patients for any movements or behaviors that might require help, such as trying to get out of bed or showing signs of distress. When something concerning happens, you follow the set guidelines and immediately contact the nursing staff. Your main responsibility is to ensure patients are safe by watching them continuously and communicating any concerns right away. The Monitor Tech provides support services. In addition, the monitor tech will be responsible in monitoring and interpreting patient heart rhythms and vital signs as well as following set algorithm parameters that may raise alarms. This role must be able to interpret alarms and follow through with appropriate communication as needed. Depending on location, the monitor tech may also be providing continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. Summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. Follows set algorithms, interprets alarming events, and follows through with appropriate communication as needed.
Requirements
- High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) required
- Must know how to use organizational policies and procedures
- Must be organized and have ability to prioritize work, function under and handle stress and ability to do detailed work efficiently
- Must have good interpersonal skills, strong communication skills and able to collaborate with other team members
Nice To Haves
- Experience in healthcare is helpful
- Previous experience with clerical/business services, communications equipment, and computer entry desirable but not required
Responsibilities
- Observe patients for movements or behaviors that might require help
- Follow set guidelines and immediately contact the nursing staff when something concerning happens
- Ensure patients are safe by watching them continuously and communicating any concerns right away
- Provide support services
- Basic computer keyboarding skills
- Tearing down and assembling patient charts as appropriate
- Calling other departments to inform them of ordered tests and procedures as needed
- Stocking supplies
- Monitoring and interpreting patient heart rhythms and vital signs
- Following set algorithm parameters that may raise alarms
- Interpret alarms and follow through with appropriate communication as needed
- Use organizational policies and procedures
- Distribution of medications to licensed personnel
- Reception duties i.e. answering phones, use of multi-line telephone system and spectra-links
- Providing continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients
- Summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance
- Follows set algorithms, interprets alarming events, and follows through with appropriate communication as needed
