About The Position

The Host Clerks are responsible for a variety of patient and non-patient tasks in the call center, tray line, nursing unit, and kitchen as assigned. These tasks include checking and verifying all beverages, hot foods, cold foods and condiments on the patient tray and loading the tray into the delivery cart. They communicate with Production staff concerning any issues with food items being served for Room Service, read and correct patient menus based on their prescribed diet, and tally items on the menus while communicating needs to the production staff in a timely manner. The role also involves placing items on patient trays, coordinating delivery with the hostess staff, answering phone calls, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. For Patient Serving Host Clerks, responsibilities include assisting patients with ordering meals, visiting new admissions to explain the room service program, and delivering patient trays to the units. They must read and interpret diet orders and allergy information, verify meal delivery to the correct patient, and communicate needs to the call center. The host clerk will be required to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, push, and lift items of various weights from 5 to 50 pounds, and must demonstrate customer service skills and organizational abilities.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalency preferred.
  • Knowledge of Illinois Sanitation.

Responsibilities

  • Check and verify all beverages, hot foods, cold foods and condiments on the patient tray and load the tray into the delivery cart.
  • Communicate with Production staff concerning any issues with food items being served for Room Service.
  • Read and correct patient menus based on their prescribed diet.
  • Tally items on the menus and communicate needs to the production staff in a timely manner.
  • Place items on patient trays as they are assembled on tray line and stock coolers with patient meal items.
  • Place trays in carts and coordinate delivery with the hostess staff.
  • Answer phone calls, using an iPad, and using a touch screen computer to track trays through the delivery process.
  • Restock items on the tray line including trays of proportioned food, cups, bulk food items, ice, and soda boxes.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment and maintain equipment in clean, good working condition.
  • Assist patients with ordering meals face to face with a variety of illnesses.
  • Visit new admissions and explain the room service program.
  • Read menus to patients and assist them with the room service ordering process by placing orders on the telephone or iPad.
  • Communicate with nurses, doctors, and other staff on the units as appropriate.
  • Deliver patient trays to the units and cut, open, and set up items as appropriate.
  • Read and interpret diet orders and allergy information.
  • Pick up trays and record patient meal intake.
  • Verify the meal is delivered to the correct patient.
  • Identify patients who require ordering assistance and communicate needs to the call center.
  • Fill floor stock food items, formulas, tube feedings, and general supply items in the unit kitchens.
