About The Position

Focus on non-medical needs of the patient and family. Serve as liaison among patients, families, visitors, staff and physicians. Respond to questions and concerns in a timely basis. Focused primarily in the waiting room with attention to the needs of patients and families including education regarding the flow/process of the ED; observing patients for change in condition/status; familiarity with all people in the waiting room; providing comfort measures including pillows, blankets, ice packets etc.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Past experience in customer service, particularly in a high volume, fast paced environment. Strong ability to engage with a diverse population of patients. Excellent communication skills. Understanding of and empathetic toward illness and suffering, and sorrow of the patient/family. Must be able to offer comfort and consolation

Responsibilities

  • Arrange to visit patients and families in ED on priority basis: Waiting Room (90%), Family Consult Room (5%), ED patient rooms if necessary (5%)
  • Providing comfort measures to patients and families waiting (such as warm blankets, coffee, emotional support).
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns and help to resolve issues by engaging the appropriate resource.
  • Close working relationship with the Triage and Charge nurse
