PATIENT INTAKE REPRESENTATIVE - ADMITTING
About The Position
Primary hours of position would be 7pm-7am with an alternating weekend rotation. Greets, directs, and assists patients and customers entering the Emergency Department through the emergency entrance. They will be able to recognize life threatening and urgent presentations of patients arriving ambulatory to the intake window and will perform intake of key data elements including name, date of birth, chief complaint and physician to initiate the registration process in Meditech and MedHost. Additionally, the Intake Coordinator will assume responsibilities related to Patient Access functions including Registration, Insurance Verification, Co-pay collection and financial counseling. Customer service and communication skills must reflect delivering excellence standards.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Required Experience: Two to five experience required
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: EMT-B or Paramedic Certification & Licensure
Responsibilities
- Greets patients, family and visitors entering the Emergency Department reflecting delivering excellence standards.
- Intake of key data elements including name, date of birth, chief complaint and physician.
- Recognition of life threatening and urgent presentations
- Appropriately responding to patients presenting with life threatening and urgent issues by notifying ED triage nurse or other assistance as identified i.e. Security
- Monitors Emergency Department waiting room for changes in patient conditions and safety of those present
- Greet, direct and log visitors arriving after the Atrium entrance is closed/staffed
- Verifies registration/demographic information in Meditech for all ED patients cart-side
- Performs insurance eligibility verification
- Provides information to patients on financial assistance programs as necessary
- Provides presumptive screening tools for patients who present to the ED as Self Pay
- Provides registration services to the hospital for inpatient admissions, OB admissions, newborn, outpatient registration, order entry for patients during hours when the Admitting department is closed. (After 8pm Monday –Friday, after 1pm on Saturday, Sundays and Holidays)
- Provides information to patients who will be admitted regarding Medicare payment processes
- Gathers advance directives information from patients and provides information to patients as requested
- Performs QA checks for ED registration
- Registers all pre-registered accounts after midnight to expedite patient arrival in Admitting during business
