About The Position

The Patient Flow Coordinator (RN) in the Emergency Department is responsible for overseeing patient flow, ensuring timely placement and efficient throughput of patients. This role involves collaboration with various healthcare disciplines, providing leadership and feedback to enhance patient care and safety, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in nursing required.
  • Registered Nurse License is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
  • Previous healthcare experience highly preferred.
  • Previous RN experience is preferred.
  • ED experience is preferred.
  • Experience as a charge nurse preferred.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) required.
  • Proficiency with desktop computer required.
  • Demonstrate willingness to be a team-player and a self-starter required.
  • Proficiency in obtaining vital signs using manual processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure care is delivered with respect to individual patient rights, preferences, and expectations.
  • Participate in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making related to patient flow goals.
  • Provide specific and objective staff performance feedback to E.D. leadership regarding practices affecting patient flow and safety.
  • Constantly round throughout the Emergency Department to oversee patient flow.
  • Serve as a liaison between Bed Management, E.D. providers, nursing, and other departments to ensure timely patient placement.
  • Assist in organizing the work environment and patient care teams to achieve designated unit outcomes.
  • Coordinate patient flow into and out of the department.
  • Supervise and coordinate patient placement and flow through the E.D.
  • Maintain oversight of the E.D. tracking board for all patients.
  • Provide regular feedback on patient throughput performance to the E.D. team.
  • Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of healthcare delivery processes in the E.D.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects and committees.
  • Provide guidance and leadership recommendations based on evidence-based facts and data-driven decisions.
  • Assist in integrating staff engagement and performance behaviors for diverse patient populations.
  • Ensure all decisions related to patient flow follow regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Propose changes to policy and procedure to support needed practices.
  • Interact as a liaison with patients and family/caregivers.
  • Assist with departmental emergency preparedness and response.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
