The Patient Financial Services Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial viability of Parkland Health and Hospital System by performing essential registration duties. This includes patient registration, obtaining precertification, securing proper authorizations, verifying insurance, and providing preliminary financial counseling services. The representative is expected to greet patients, family members, and peers in a professional and friendly manner, promoting a positive public image of the organization. This position requires a commitment to accuracy and timeliness in completing job responsibilities, as well as a willingness to assist the hospital during internal or external disasters. In this role, the representative will obtain, verify, and update accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information during the registration process. This includes entering patient and guarantor information into the patient registration and accounting systems, ensuring that accounts are billed accurately and promptly, and preventing duplication of medical record numbers. The representative will also review patient accounts for financial status, identifying non-funded or under-funded patients and referring cases to financial counseling and case management as necessary. Additionally, the representative will educate patients about their financial liabilities, employing compliant collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service. Responsibilities also include cash reconciliation and secured payment entry, adhering to financial and cash control policies. The representative must document actions taken in account notes for clarity and ensure that Patient Rights & Responsibilities are properly explained to patients. The role requires staying updated on industry developments and maintaining knowledge of applicable regulations and guidelines that impact the area.
