About The Position

The Patient Financial Services Representative is responsible for supporting the Patient Accounts department through account management, insurance follow-up, claims resolution, and customer service. This role serves as a liaison between patients, the organization, and insurance providers, working to ensure timely reimbursement and a positive financial experience for patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Requires knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services or insurance industry experience processes normally acquired over one or more years of work experience.
  • Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently.
  • Requires strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience in data entry and customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • 2–5 years of experience in medical billing and/or insurance follow-up.
  • Additional education or certifications in healthcare billing or revenue cycle preferred.
  • Familiarity with payer portals and clearinghouse platforms (e.g., Availity, Change Healthcare).
  • Working knowledge of CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10 codes, and medical terminology.
  • Understanding of government payer regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Review and resolve unpaid claims in accordance with payer contracts and internal policies to achieve optimal reimbursement.
  • Identify and address claim denials and rejections; submit corrected claims and provide requested documentation as needed.
  • Utilize reports and dashboards to identify claim issues and take corrective action.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all submitted claims.
  • Process patient and insurance refunds in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Draft and send routine correspondence to patients and insurance carriers.
  • Respond promptly to patient and insurance inquiries, offering clear and courteous support.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and ACHC guidelines.
  • Stay current with industry standards and payer requirements.
  • Foster collaborative relationships across departments and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and data entry skills.
  • Ability to effectively operate office equipment such as phones, computers, and fax machines.
  • Receptive to feedback and able to implement corrective actions professionally.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
