About The Position

The Patient Financial Navigator is an exciting opportunity at MultiCare to assist patients and families to access financial resources. In this role you will evaluate financial situations in accordance with regulatory compliance and maintain patient confidentiality and dignity. You will be able to apply your strong communications skills in this position.

Requirements

  • Completion of a medical terminology course or proficiency preferred
  • Certified as an Application Counselor (CAC) within 90-days of employment
  • Minimum three (3) years healthcare collection, financial counseling, insurance benefit verification and/or precertification, third party payor, Medicaid case work or billing experience required

Responsibilities

  • Explain topics of insurance coverage, treatment costs, and financial assistance opportunities to the patient, relative, or patient's representative
  • Provide expertise and education in the areas of Medicaid eligibility, Social Security Disability and any available government programs
  • Perform complete and accurate Patient registrations according to the organization’s policy and procedures and federal/state regulatory requirements, acting as an ambassador to ensure a patient-friendly experience
  • Complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic information, insurance data and/or third-party liability information
  • Complete regulatory or policy required forms, including payor requirements such as Medicare, L & I requirements and some commercial payors, and obtains all necessary signatures via mail or upon registration
  • Provide patient liability information to and collects the point of service cash from patients based on guidelines and/or systems provided by the department, including but not limited to: co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, deposits, outstanding balances
