About The Position

Position Purpose: As a Financial Counselor at Mercy Care Atlanta, you will manage financial risk by determining payor and securing all unscheduled patient accounts. Your role is vital in ensuring reimbursement for services rendered by verifying benefits, obtaining necessary authorizations, and maintaining database integrity. What You Will Do: Verify insurance benefits and secure authorization from third-party payers. Develop financial plans for uninsured patients, securing payment or establishing payment plans. Collaborate with Medicaid screening and qualify patients for financial assistance. Calculate deductibles, co-payments, and cost estimates. Collect patient payments or co-payments at the time of the visit. Resolve billing issues by interpreting patient bills. Document accurate patient income or insurance and collection information in EPIC practice management system. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in financial counseling within a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, previous experience with EPIC EPM preferred.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Basic knowledge of third-party payer requirements and government programs.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CPAR certification is optional.
  • Bilingual (Spanish proficiency in written and verbal communication preferred.
