About The Position

The Patient Financial Counselor plays a crucial role in assisting non-insured patients in navigating the complexities of medical insurance programs. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring that patients receive the necessary support to obtain medical coverage. The counselor will conduct interviews with patients to gather essential information and assist them in completing the application process, whether through online or paper applications. This role requires a thorough understanding of various medical plans, including Medicaid, and the ability to explain the Affordable Care Act and other available plans to patients. In addition to assisting with applications, the Financial Counselor is responsible for collecting and forwarding required documents to the appropriate state agencies for processing. They will also help patients resolve any eligibility issues by liaising with Mass Health and updating the Epic system with accurate insurance information. The counselor will work closely with the billing department to address any billing issues that arise, setting up payment plans for patients when necessary. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with both patients and internal staff, including Patient Support Associates and Billing staff. The Financial Counselor will also perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor, contributing to the overall efficiency of the patient financial services team.
