About The Position

The Patient Finance Specialist at Jackson Health System is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate patient registration, which includes interviewing patients for necessary account information and verifying insurance coverage. This role is crucial in facilitating the financial aspects of patient care and ensuring compliance with hospital policies.

Requirements

  • 0 to 3 years of related experience is generally required.
  • High school diploma is required; a Bachelor's degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Valid license or certification is required as needed based on the job or specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients and/or family members to obtain necessary account information.
  • Performs bedside registration using carts/computers on wheels.
  • Obtains patient demographic, insurance, and financial information as needed.
  • Searches the Master Patient Index (MPI) and assigns the correct medical record number.
  • Verifies insurance and obtains pre-certification/authorization for services as required.
  • Calculates and collects patient liable amounts, explaining policies regarding services rendered.
  • Processes all patient payments according to JHS Collections Policy and Procedure, issuing receipts and maintaining payment integrity.
  • Secures required signatures for treatments, release of medical information, and assignment of insurance benefits.
  • Obtains copies of necessary patient identification and insurance cards, scanning documents timely.
  • Answers questions and explains policies clearly to patients and families.
  • Processes patient charts according to paperwork flow needs and established productivity standards.
  • Produces paperwork for each patient for distribution to appropriate departments.
  • Aligns documents for establishing the patient's medical record and financial file.
  • Welcomes patients and family members in a professional manner.
  • Contacts clinical staff for emergency medical needs and answers patient and visitor questions.
  • Informs patients or their representatives of delinquent accounts and attempts to obtain payment.
  • Checks for physician orders and attaches them to patient medical records.
  • Guides patients to their destinations or refers them to Guest Services Representatives.
  • Responsible for timely bed assignment to ensure appropriate unit placement based on established criteria.
  • Works closely with unit managers to resolve transfer issues to or from external facilities.
  • Reviews insurance contract matrix to verify appropriate hospital placement according to patient insurance plans.
  • Attends in-services presentations and completes mandatory education as required.
  • Attends a minimum of 80% of scheduled staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values.
