About The Position

The Patient Escort position at Ochsner Health involves transporting patients being admitted, moved to different departments, and discharged. The role requires performing specific duties dependent on the assigned department under close supervision and/or according to detailed instructions, policies, and procedures. The position is full-time, with working hours from 7 am to 3:30 pm.

Requirements

• Education Required: None.
• Preferred: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience Required: None.
• Certifications Required within 90 Days of Employment: Basic Life Support certification.
• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Transports newly admitted patients to assigned rooms in a timely manner.
• Delivers clinic records, admit forms, and charge cards to nursing units and ancillary departments.
• Locates and maintains equipment used in the department.
• Transports patients to/from Hospital/Clinic ancillary departments via wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds as requested in a safe and caring manner.
• Transports discharged patients and belongings from nursing units and ancillary departments.
• Takes responsibility for personal development and required training.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements.
