About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Patient Escort III to join our Emergency Department (ED) team. This role is a dedicated transporter position stationed specifically in the ED, supporting timely, safe, and compassionate patient movement throughout the hospital during high‑acuity and fast‑paced situations. The ideal candidate will have prior patient escort or transport experience and thrive in an environment that requires strong communication, teamwork, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous patient escort or patient transport experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum of two years of customer service experience
  • Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire
  • Knowledge of hospital layout and departments (or ability to learn quickly)
  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of basic body mechanics and safe patient handling
  • Comfort using smartphones and basic computer systems (email, scheduling, timekeeping)
  • Ability to remain professional, calm, and compassionate in high‑stress situations
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with ED staff
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and maneuver patients and equipment, sometimes involving considerable weight
  • Must pass a back evaluation examination
  • Frequent patient, family, and staff interaction
  • Exposure to cleaning agents, blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases
  • Frequent handwashing required

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients via stretcher, wheelchair, bed, or specialized transport equipment to and from the ED and other hospital departments
  • Serve as a dedicated member of the Emergency Department care team, responding quickly to transport needs in a fast‑paced environment
  • Assist ED clinical staff with patient transfers and positioning
  • Maintain safety by following departmental policies, procedures, and infection prevention guidelines
  • Pick up and deliver equipment, specimens, medication, and paperwork as appropriate
  • Assist with care, cleaning, and maintenance of transport equipment
  • Act as a subject matter expert for patient transport protocols and safety standards
  • Support dispatch operations as needed
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold a courteous, service‑oriented attitude at all times
  • Participate in training, in‑services, and department meetings as required
