About The Position

The Patient Transporter at UC Health plays a crucial role in assisting nursing staff with patient care duties, ensuring patient safety, and facilitating the smooth flow of patients throughout the hospital. This position involves transporting patients to various departments, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the transportation environment, and providing excellent customer service to both patients and visitors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written materials.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Completion of annual certification of mandatory unit-specific, hospital, and safety education.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients to and from nursing units or other departments using proper body mechanics and universal precautions.
  • Communicate with the patient's RN regarding patient needs, including the removal and application of oxygen.
  • Effectively communicate patient observations and concerns to the Charge nurse in a timely manner.
  • Recognize and report concerns or situations requiring immediate attention to the appropriate healthcare team member.
  • Orient patients and visitors to their rooms and units, ensuring safety measures are in place.
  • Enter appropriate information in patient flow systems and ensure completion of oral and written directives.
  • Interact with internal and external customers respectfully and courteously, maintaining professionalism.
  • Assist nursing staff with patient needs by responding to call lights and providing comfort measures.
  • Obtain needed supplies and equipment for nursing units and maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Perform courier duties as needed.
