About The Position

The Patient and Equipment Transport position at Advocate Christ Medical Center involves lifting and transporting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing of patients using appropriate body mechanics. The role requires ensuring patient comfort by being attentive and offering blankets, following all posted precaution signs, and transporting patients to their destinations. Additionally, the transporter may be responsible for transporting other items such as patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment. Immediate contact with clinical staff is necessary regarding any changes to a patient's condition or issues with equipment during transport. The transporter must verify and document correct patient identification by comparing information from the printed ticket to ride with the patient wristband. Using electronic software, the transporter will track assignments and collect and return equipment to proper holding areas, disinfecting and inspecting transport equipment before and after use. Maintaining confidentiality of patient information is crucial, and the transporter may also be responsible for collecting patient equipment from soiled utility rooms and delivering patient medication, excluding controlled substances.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless determined otherwise.
  • No formal education required.
  • No experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service.
  • Satisfactory completion in safe patient handling for transporters within one month of start date.
  • Ability to assess status of equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition.
  • Ability to assess and determine the best routes within the hospital.

Responsibilities
