About The Position

The position is for a part-time transporter in the Nursing Float Pool at Advocate Health, specifically in the Sheboygan County area. The role involves lifting and transporting patients to and from various locations within the healthcare facility, ensuring their comfort and safety during transport. The transporter will also be responsible for handling patient belongings and equipment, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to safety protocols. The work schedule includes hours from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm or 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm, with a requirement to work every third weekend and holiday. The pay range for this position is between $18.50 and $27.75 per hour.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless determined otherwise by the department leader.
  • No formal education required.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service.
  • Satisfactory completion in safe patient handling for transporters within one month of start date.
  • Ability to assess the status of equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition.
  • Ability to assess and determine the best routes within the hospital to reach desired destinations.

Responsibilities

  • Lifts and transports patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing of the patient.
  • Ensures patient comfort by being attentive and offering blankets.
  • Follows all posted precaution signs during transport.
  • Transports patients to their destinations and may also transport other items such as patient belongings, specimens, carts, and equipment.
  • Contacts clinical staff regarding changes to a patient's condition or issues with equipment during transport.
  • Verifies and documents correct patient identification by comparing information from the printed ticket to the patient wristband.
  • Tracks assignments using electronic software, noting when they are initiated, completed, delayed, or cancelled.
  • Collects and returns equipment to proper holding areas and disinfects transport equipment before and after use.
  • Maintains equipment and reports any that need repair.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • May be responsible for collection of patient equipment from soiled utility rooms and for the pick-up and delivery of patient medication, excluding controlled substances.
