Summary The Patient Engagement Specialist (PES) is the main staff point of contact for patients in early recovery, helping to create a safe, structured, and supportive treatment environment. The PES leads non-clinical group activities, monitors patient movement, resolves interpersonal conflicts, and supports daily operations. Ideal candidates are calm under pressure, value structure and consistency, and are deeply committed to supporting recovery. OVERVIEW: The Patient Engagement Specialist monitors & provides accountability to patients in treatment and embarking on their road to recovery. They are the main staff point of contact for all patients, carrying out activities ranging from light fitness classes to daily lectures on topics pertinent to recovery. They monitor patients regularly, resolving conflicts and responding to critical situations. They interact regularly with other clinical staff to aid in the recovery process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with behavioral health or substance use populations strongly preferred
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a clean record (minimum 3 years preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or crisis situations
  • Ability to de-escalate interpersonal conflict and set consistent boundaries
  • Physically able to intervene in emergency situations, including lifting or running if necessary
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to gain patient trust and foster respect
  • Passion for recovery and commitment to a drug-free lifestyle
  • Authorization to work in the United States required
  • Applicant must be 21 years of age or older in order to be eligible for company insurance and use of company car
  • 1+ year(s) experience working with Substance Abuse populations strongly preferred
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful or high-risk situations
  • Comfort with conflict required
  • Possess the physical ability to run and the strength to disarm/defuse tense situations
  • Ability to deadlift/bench approximately 200 pounds is essential
  • Skilled at solving problems and using critical thinking
  • Clean driving record for at least 3 years
  • Commitment to drug-free lifestyle and responsible alcohol use is essential
  • Authorization to work in the US is required
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Competency with electronic health records

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of daily support and accountability for patients in treatment
  • Monitor patient movement and enforce program rules and safety standards
  • Lead non-therapy enrichment activities including light fitness, guided meditation, and peer-led discussion groups
  • Facilitate or supervise trips to off-campus 12-step meetings and community events
  • Support and monitor communal areas, including the courtyard and meal rooms
  • Mediate and de-escalate patient conflicts using calm, professional communication
  • Assist with minor cleaning duties and promote a respectful, orderly facility environment
  • Drive patients to meetings or events as needed (in the absence of a designated driver)
  • Document observations and communicate with clinical or leadership staff as needed
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and emotional composure at all times
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing development

  • Specialize in one-on-one patient engagement and retention tactics
  • Facilitate non-therapy groups and led patients in light daily fitness classes and enrichment activities including guided meditation, community building and free time
  • Monitor patient movement and maintain presence in “courtyard” area; monitor meals in the meal room, including enforcement of portion control and putting aside plates for those not feeling well enough to physically attend meals
  • Lead community meetings to discuss various aspects of treatment or to resolve potential conflicts between patients
  • Attend & supervise trips to off-campus 12-step recovery meetings and enrichment activities with outside vendors
  • Monitor patients at all times, diffuse conflicts, ensure patient compliance with treatment protocol, and involve other clinical staff as necessary
  • Perform some daily facility cleaning duties
  • Drive patients to off-campus meetings and events In absence of the Van Driver
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by supervisor
  • Work as a highly dependable, independent member of the treatment team
