Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Certified Enrollment Counselor certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire and annually thereafter
  • Valid California driver’s license and vehicle insurance; reliable transportation, to travel for meetings and/or to gather information for reporting purposes; minimum two years’ driving experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Knowledge of community health centers, and public assistance programs, state and federal regulations and managed care systems
  • Effective verbal and written skills necessary for communication, in both English and Spanish, with patients/clients, providers and other staff
  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a professional manner, including people of all social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and within the constraints of government funded programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and commitment to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction
  • Ability and willingness to meet the organization’s attendance and dress code policies
  • Ability to handle confidential materials and information in a professional manner
  • Experience/familiarity with computers, business e-mail, communication systems and internet search capabilities and proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in completing eligibility and application packets for healthcare insurance enrollment or renewal.
  • Schedule appointments for patients
  • Instruct patients on the documents necessary for the eligibility process, and provide an overview of available healthcare insurance options
  • Assign patients a primary care provider (PCP)
  • Reschedule patients who miss appointments
  • Conduct follow-up and perform tracking activities to monitor patient’s insurance status; assist with re-application process
  • Compile statistics and reports on the number of patients assisted, including application status, health insurance retention, healthcare utilization, and other information as needed
  • Act as a liaison between the patient, healthcare insurance group, and VCC for enrollment information, and for maintenance of healthcare insurance
  • Attend trainings and other meetings as required
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature review, in-service meetings and workshops
