About The Position

The patient companion performs close and/or continuous observation of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients who may be at risk for adverse events such as falls, self-injury or harm to others in accordance with the training and established methods and procedures of the hospital. The patient companion provides direct observation of patients as directed by a nurse.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• BLS within 30 days of employment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under the supervision of the nursing staff and/or nursing supervisor.
• Adheres to clinical policies and procedures when performing patient companion tasks.
• Is flexible: copes successfully with a variety of situations, personalities and the changing work environment.
• Demonstrates understanding of the importance of safety.
• Communicates with patients in a manner that is respectful of their age, culture, and education.
• Only accepts delegated tasks competent to perform, and communicates need for additional information, assistance or guidance as needed.
• Performs timely and accurate documentation as required by area of employment.
• Greets patients and visitors with friendly manner upon arrival and orients them to the room/unit.
• Applies the knowledge and skills needed to do the job.
• Keeps informed about practices, procedures, and new developments related to own work.
