Opening its doors in 2013 and expanding in 2017, this state-of-the-art acute care facility has 177 patient rooms and offers services in a wide variety of specialties to meet community needs. As Patient Companion, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. You will also find a culture that encourages professional growth, educational development and career success. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts/days from 6:00AM - 6:30PM or 6:00PM - 6:30AM. Floating between Martin North, Martin South and Tradition Hospitals will be required, as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross for healthcare providers upon or within the three months of hire
  • Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program or equivalent experience OR currently enrolled at an accredited school of Nursing, with completion of a Nursing Fundamentals Course OR have completed hospital-based NA/PC orientation or equivalent
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Responsibilities

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, you will observe three to four patients.
  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
  • Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
