About The Position

The Patient Companion position within the Nursing Resource Pool at Trinity Health Ann Arbor involves performing specific patient care activities as assigned by the patient's RN, taking into account the patient's age, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. Responsibilities include setting up food trays, assisting with eating, helping with basic hygiene needs, offering fluids, accompanying patients on walks, assisting patients to the bathroom or chair, providing diversionary activities, replacing nasal cannulas, and re-applying intermittent compression devices. Patient Companions must remain with and observe the assigned patient at all times, ensuring that the patient is never unattended by coordinating meal and break times with the patient's nurse.

Requirements

• High school diploma
• CPR or BLS Certification
• Ability to maintain professionalism and self-control in difficult or stressful conditions

Responsibilities

• Setting up food tray and assisting with eating
• Assisting patient with basic hygiene needs (bathing, brushing teeth)
• Offering fluids
• Accompanying patient on walks
• Assisting patient to bathroom or chair
• Providing diversionary activities
• Replacing nasal cannula
• Re-applying intermittent compression devices (ICDs or SCDs)
• Remaining with and observing the assigned patient at all times
