The Patient Companion position within the Nursing Resource Pool involves performing specific patient care activities as assigned by the patient's RN, taking into account the patient's age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. Responsibilities include setting up food trays, assisting with eating, helping with basic hygiene needs such as bathing and brushing teeth, offering fluids, accompanying patients on walks, assisting patients to the bathroom or chair, providing diversionary activities, replacing nasal cannulas, and re-applying intermittent compression devices (ICDs or SCDs). Patient Companions must remain with and observe the assigned patient at all times, ensuring that the patient is never unattended by coordinating meal and break times with the patient's nurse.
