About The Position

The Patient Commercial Insurance or Managed Care Accounts Receivable Representative plays a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). This position involves verifying insurance, evaluating patient financial responsibilities, and ensuring that accounts are updated to a billable status. The representative will work to resolve outstanding account balances and reduce uncompensated care by collaborating with patients, insurance companies, and various departments within the healthcare system.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• 1 year of work experience in general collections, accounts receivable oversight, or customer service required.
• Experience with insurance verification and evaluating patients' financial responsibility.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in researching denials, claim rejections, and delays in reimbursement.
• Ability to utilize all possible means to resolve accounts, including contacting patients and insurance companies.

Responsibilities

• Works and maintains assigned receivables through work queues and age trail balance reports to achieve established department goals.
• Works with third-party insurances to obtain maximum cash levels to reduce receivables.
• Reviews financial references, including guidelines for reimbursement and payer-specific policies.
• Ensures correct processing of outstanding insurance claims by interpreting payer responses and submitting appeals.
• Evaluates financial responsibility of patients and resolves insurance denials and claim rejections.
