About The Position

The Patient Collections Specialist is responsible for managing outstanding patient balances, ensuring timely collections, and providing excellent customer service related to billing inquiries. This role supports revenue cycle operations by maintaining strong communication with patients, monitoring account aging, and implementing effective collection strategies while adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Respond to patient messages and voicemails in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain established performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Perform timely follow-up on outstanding patient balances and aging accounts
  • Provide support and guidance to patients regarding billing questions and payment options
  • Answer inbound calls and make outbound calls to collect on outstanding balances
  • Establish payment arrangements in accordance with financial policy guidelines
  • Maintain accurate logs of promised payments and active payment plans
  • Process patient payments over the phone securely and accurately
  • Submit insurance claims promptly and accurately when applicable information is provided
  • Remove accounts from third-party collections when balances are resolved
  • Process and mail patient refunds, ensuring proper account documentation
  • Resolve returned mail and update patient billing information as needed
  • Contact patients to obtain updated payment information for declined or insufficient payments
  • Assist with reconciliation of patient payments and support payment posting functions
  • Support client collections and assist other billing team functions as needed
  • Perform additional billing and administrative duties as assigned
