The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This position involves performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services that are essential to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the PCT assists the nursing staff in providing comprehensive patient care in accordance with their skills and training, as well as the needs of the department. The PCT is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment, adhering to all hospital policies and procedures, and observing the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel. In this role, the PCT participates in the implementation of nursing care plans by providing both direct and indirect patient care. This includes obtaining and recording initial and ongoing patient information throughout the care cycle, such as admissions data, vital signs, and other relevant patient information. The PCT also assists with patient mobility, ensuring proper body mechanics are used during transfers and ambulation. Additionally, the PCT aids in the collection of specimens for diagnostic tests and assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene and nutrition. The PCT may also serve as a Monitor/Telemetry Tech for the unit as needed and is expected to engage in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience. This includes participating in safety rounding, effective communication techniques, and patient education strategies.
