About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in UAMS Neuroscience Clinics. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse(s) and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies and works within the Department of Nursing standards, adhering to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • CPR Certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral instructions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong work ethics and accountability.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
  • Patient care experience in acute/outpatient care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention.
  • Supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team.
  • Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition.
  • Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.
  • Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.
  • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.
  • Follows through on delegated patient care activities.
  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures.
  • Assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
  • Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
  • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
  • Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
