About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in F6 Medical Specialties Unit. F6 Medical Specialties Unit has an inpatient capacity of 30 beds. Patients receive comprehensive medical care which spans diagnosis and periodic re-admissions for treatment. Specialty nursing skills utilized on these units include provision of support to families and patients related to the psychosocial and emotional issues encountered with the diagnoses. A multidisciplinary approach to care is utilized and includes a social worker, pharmacist, clinical nurse specialist, and dietitian.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Patient Care Technician experience.
  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.
  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
  • Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.
  • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.
  • Follows through on delegated patient care activities.
  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
  • Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
  • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
  • Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
