About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works closely with Providers and other Urgent Care staff to provide supportive services and quality care to patients. This position is cross trained for Medical Assistant and Front Desk.

Requirements

  • Must have at least a high school diploma and/or equivalent.
  • Basic typing and keyboarding skills
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrates flexibility by adapting to new and changing situations and duties in order to accommodate patient needs effectively

  • Must be able to work weekends – Saturdays and Sundays
  • Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
  • Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Other: Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
  • Take patient histories and vital signs
  • Prepare patient for examination and treatment
  • Apply splints and dressings, prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments including sterilization
  • Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals
  • Administers injections
  • Dispense medication as directed
  • Instruct and educate patients about discharge instructions if applicable
  • Perform selected nursing and administrative duties as directed
  • Handle telephone calls from clients, patients, prospective patients, physicians, pharmacies, as well as other staff
  • Provide solutions to patient concerns within the scope of position
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation to provider staff, insurance carriers and companies
  • Correspondence by phone, in person, or in writing with regard to patient care, i.e. insurance carriers, physicians, non-clinic physicians
  • Maintain patient records for clinical use, medical records use, billing use, physicians’ review, etc.
  • Log and mark charges on superbills per billing office protocols
  • Document patient files, records, forms, and other information
  • Assist with scheduling of test and treatments
  • Screen phone calls for referral to physician
  • Be sure work area appears neat, well stocked, and organized
  • Consistently demonstrate internal and external quality customer service standards to all that request assistance, responding in a professional manner
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Prepare the clinic for opening each day by reviewing the facility, opening all systems applications, and preparing new patient registration packets and required documents
  • Welcome guest, create a warm and friendly atmosphere and deliver outstanding customer service
  • Register patients and collect and update patient records in an accurate and timely manner
  • Verify insurance, and determine, collect, and process patient co-payments
  • Triage patients to ensure effective and efficient patient flow
  • Follow company procedures related to workers’ compensation and occupational medicine patients
  • Discharge patients accurately and timely by collecting balances, providing patient documentation, and following discharge procedures
  • Respond promptly to customer needs, provide excellent customer service, assist patients with follow-up appointments, and fulfill medical documentation requests
  • Ensure patient flow is speedy and organized
  • Enter and balance daily patient charges (cash, check, credit cards); scan charts and ensure patient files and charges are complete and accurate
  • Answer incoming calls in a professional manner – forward call or take message as appropriate
  • Coordinate faxes and referrals with other physicians and employers
  • Observe safety and security procedures; promote a safe and pleasant work environment
  • Ensure cleanliness of patient waiting area and front office area
  • Create a positive long lasting impression on guest
  • Consistently demonstrate internal and external quality customer service standards to all that request assistance, responding in a professional manner
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
