Position: Patient Care Technician Department: Mother/Baby Schedule: 36 Hours Days (Every Other Weekend / 7 AM- 7 PM) ABOUT THE MATERNAL CHILD HEALTH/MOTHER BABY DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER: Patient Care Technician for the Post-Partum Unit and Newborn Nursery provide couplet care to patients that have recently delivered in our Labor & Delivery unit. As a Magnet recognized organization, these nurses provide care to the whole family, ensuring the first few days of care have set the family up for success POSITION SUMMARY: As a Patient Care Technician in the Maternal Child Health/Mother Baby Department, you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care. Using our patient-centered care model you will be uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, and will be able to deliver the excellent care to your patients that they deserve.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED certificate
• Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
• Ability to pass clinical competency testing
• Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
• Basic math and computer proficiency
• One of the following:
• One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
• Completed an approved patient care technician
• Completed an approved patient care technician training
• One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)

Nice To Haves

• Fluency in another language a plus
• Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the ED and their families. Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
• Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the ED.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the ED, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
