About The Position

The Patient Care Technician position on the Rehabilitation & Neurosurgery unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care. The Rehabilitation & Neurosurgery unit cares for neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, and inpatient rehab patients. The patient population is mostly adult, with some pediatrics or late adolescent patients. Our unit focuses on acute care patients and neuro-progressive care patients who require more hands on monitoring the first 24 hours post-surgery. Nursing division surgical units provide care for patients that require complex postoperative nursing care, including pain management, frequent monitoring, management of complex wounds and cardiac monitoring. Units across this cohort provide specialized care that would otherwise be provided in an intensive care setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of recent experience in an acute care setting as a Nursing Assistant or a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Responsibilities

  • Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs.
  • Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs.
  • Updates and retrieves patient information.
  • Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
