About The Position

NOW HIRING a flexible team member that is available to work at both OUR PRINCETON (5 Vaughn Drive) and FREEHOLD (2 Paragon Way) LOCATIONS! Tree of Life Counseling Center is a busy out-patient mental health counseling and medication management office seeing over 1,600 clients in person and remotely every week and we are rapidly expanding. We are seeking a part-time (estimated 24 hours), Patient Care Technician to join our hard-working and close knit team in a role that requires in-person at Princeton and Freehold offices. This position will report directly to our Director of Medication Management Services helping support the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner team and assisting clients with scheduling, on-boarding to our practice, and general customer service. We are a digital practice and utilize electronic health records and telephone systems that are all web-based, paperless systems.

Requirements

  • Education: Typically requires a high school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program.
  • Experience: Previous behavioral health or medical assistant experience is often preferred.
  • Certifications: Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) may be required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy and a compassionate demeanor.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and mental health disorders.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • Computer literacy and experience with EMR systems.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly.

Responsibilities

  • Taking vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, weight, temperature).
  • Assisting with patient discharge procedures.
  • Monitoring and reporting patient progress and any significant changes to the medical team.
  • Rescheduling appointments.
  • Managing patient referrals and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Obtaining prior authorizations for medications and treatments.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Managing communication between patients, providers, and pharmacies.
  • Basic clerical duties such as answering phones and maintaining records.
  • Ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and complying with HIPAA regulations.
