The Patient Care Tech/Nursing Assistant role can include one-on-one care of patients on suicide or safety precautions. The Oncology Unit is a 22-bed blended medical-surgical/progressive cancer care unit that specializes in the complex care of the Oncology patient. Nurses utilize the science and art of nursing while collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of the patient and family. This position is full time, working the night shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus when the successful candidate meets applicable guidelines. As part of the health care team, the Patient Care Technician performs basic clerical and technical clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort for patients of all ages. They provide quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to patient care, offering basic nursing care and performing advanced technical skills for specified age groups according to established standards. Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, documenting and reporting patient observations to licensed staff, and transporting patients, supplies, specimens, and equipment within the facility. The role also involves contributing to performance improvement activities, exhibiting knowledge of EMR, participating in unit quality surveillance and shared governance, and potentially leading unit huddles or participating in interdepartmental patient rounds. Support for department/unit staff scheduling, reviewing medical records for orders, ordering and stocking supplies, and assisting with customer service are also key aspects. The technician processes equipment, operates office equipment, and leads admission, transfer, and discharge processes. They assist with patient flow, promote process improvement initiatives, welcome and assist patients and visitors, and demonstrate excellent telephone etiquette. Additional duties may include monitoring unit cleanliness, participating in the sitter process, assisting with regulatory compliance, and performing phlebotomy, nonsterile wound care dressings, saline lock replacement/removal, and colostomy bag changes if competent.
