About The Position

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, takes vital signs, assists with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal. This role also involves complying with patient safety practices under the direction of a professional RN nurse, observing patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, and documenting and reporting any changes to the nurse or medical staff. The position is within a 25-bed Postpartum unit that specializes in caring for high-risk mother/baby patients. The team is seeking new or experienced candidates.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • One of the following: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, or Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
  • Basic Life Support Certification
