About The Position

The Ambulatory Treatment Center Patient Care Technician (PCT) position's main purpose is to provide patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse. The Patient Care Technician impacts patient comfort and outcome of care. Patient Care Technician opportunity in the Ambulatory Treatment Center department. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of direct patient care experience. Shift: M-F 11:00 am – 7:30 pm with rotating weekends and holidays Location: May require rotating between all ATC units based on business need: ATC Main, ATC Mays and/or ATC Life Science Plaza (LSP). Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of direct patient care experience.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant, BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe environment of care through extensive knowledge of operating, maintaining, and cleaning of all equipment.
  • Clean/disinfect, high touch patient care equipment & items to include, but not limited to beds, stretchers, recliners, wheelchairs, overbed tables, bedside commodes, IV poles, vital sign machines, EKG machines & cables, etc.
  • Assist in obtaining vital signs.
  • Make sure the overbed table, telephone and call light are within the patient’s reach.
  • Assist in ambulation, out of bed to chair and/or going to the bathroom.
  • Provide nourishment to patients as directed by the clinical nurse.
  • Empty drains and Foley catheters.
  • Remove peripheral IV.
  • Handle and transport laboratory specimens, samples and blood products promptly.
  • Performs POC testing as applicable.
  • Document in electronic health record.
  • Assist patient/family with gathering personal belongings.
  • Transport patients safely to and from the lobby promptly so as not to delay patient care.
  • Discard disposable equipment, supplies, trash, suction canisters, etc.
  • Return equipment to storage locations as appropriate.
  • Request pillows, linens, and supplies as needed, including removal of soiled items.
  • Maintain supply inventory management and audit for expired items.
  • Always identify patients according to the Institutional Policy.
  • Strict compliance with the principles of aseptic technique when providing care to patients.
  • Assist in identifying barriers to patient care and solutions.
  • Escalate patient safety issues to charge nurse/leadership team.
  • Participate in educational events and competency check off.
