Position: Patient Care Technician Department: Labor and Deliver Schedule: Per Diem ABOUT THE MATERNAL CHILD HEALTH/LABOR & DELIVERY DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER: Patient Care Technician in Labor and Delivery work across the unit from antepartum to within the Labor and Delivery triage Unit in order to provide the highest quality of care to our diverse patient population. As a Magnet recognized organization, our L&D team has a strong quality improvement focus and our nurses are always developing unique solutions for their patients. POSITION SUMMARY: As a Patient Care Technician in the Maternal Child Health/Mother Baby Department, you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care. Using our patient-centered care model you will be uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, and will be able to deliver the excellent care to your patients that they deserve.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • One of the following:
  • One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
  • Completed an approved patient care technician
  • Completed an approved patient care technician training
  • One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in another language a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the ED and their families. Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the ED.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the ED, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
