The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN. This includes tasks such as cleaning patient rooms, operating clinical equipment, assisting in emergencies and patient procedures, collecting and transporting specimens, and completing necessary forms. The PCT communicates with patients, families, and the care team, maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies, and promotes a supportive and healing environment. They ensure hygiene, comfort, and rest measures are provided, comply with infection control and safety standards, and assist with various medical devices and patient care activities like ambulation, transfers, diet, elimination, and hygiene. The role also involves observing and reporting patient information, transporting patients, assisting with admissions, transfers, discharges, and postmortem care, utilizing technology, participating in performance improvement, serving as a resource, potentially engaging in research projects, and orienting new nursing support assistants.
