About The Position

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), is looking for a full-time Patient Care Technician to join our Pediatric ICU team in Springfield, MA. SCHEDULE: Full-time, 36 hours a week Nights, 7pm-7:30am Rotating Weekends and Holidays Pediatric ICU We are the region’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, we provide advanced medical, surgical, and trauma care for infants, children, and young adults through age 21 in a setting that makes the family the center of care. We see patients with all types of diagnoses including breathing problems from an infection like pneumonia or bronchiolitis, complications from an underlying disease such as diabetes , ingestion or poisoning , recent surgery – especially neurosurgery, thoracic (chest), abdominal, or major orthopedic, severe asthma or other ongoing breathing illness. Our PICU has been newly redesigned and has seven private rooms with glass doors we can close to increase privacy while still allowing the staff to visually monitor patients. Patients in the PICU are monitored by state-of-the-art heart and breathing equipment. All of the unit’s equipment is designed specifically for the needs of children.

Requirements

  • PCT training or CNA training, preferred
  • BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association, required
  • High School diploma or GED
  • at least one year of patient care experience (this experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care, etc.)
  • Three or more years of patient care experience (this experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care, etc.) experience OR at least one year as a level II PCT at Baystate Health
  • 4 or more years of Acute or specialty-specific care setting experience OR at least one year as a level III PCT at Baystate Health

Responsibilities

  • Baystate Health, Patient Care Technicians (PCT) play a hands-on role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care alongside our nursing team.
  • Under the supervision of an RN, you'll assist with direct patient care, including hygiene, mobility, and vital sign monitoring.
  • PCT’s perform a range of clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, specimen collection, and Point of Care testing.
  • This role also includes assisting with procedures, patient transport, equipment management, and supporting emergency response protocols.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and a commitment to patient safety are essential.
