About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Additional duties include but are not limited to patient transportation assistance via wheelchair and electric stretcher, assist with preparing patients for admission and discharge, assist with elimination needs, assist with cleaning wheelchairs and stretchers, restock bedside supplies and linens. Entity/Organization: MUHA (Medical University Hospital Authority/Medical Center) Hours per week: 40 Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 4 10-hour shifts per week; no call, no holidays, no weekends Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly

Requirements

  • Patient Care Technician I: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Patient Care Technician II: High school diploma/GED and ONE of the following requirements must be met.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree
  • At least 1 year work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS
  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
  • Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
  • Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution
  • Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
