Patient Care Technician - Transplant Unit (Part Time)
About The Position
When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. This position is part-time, 24 hours per week, rotating shifts. Farr 8 is a 20 bed Medical/Surgical floor specializing in the care of Kidney, Liver, and Pancreas transplant patients in both the peri-op and post-operative periods. The patient population tends to be highly acute and often chronically ill as common diagnoses include End Stage Liver and End Stage Renal Disease. Nursing responsibilities include administration of blood products, high-risk IV medications, immunosuppressant’s, and teaching related to caring for your graft, drains, and post-transplant lifestyle changes. PCT responsibilities includes ADL care, and clinical technology interventions, such as EKGs, bladder scanner, glucose checks, and documentation in the electronic medical record. Job Description: Job Summary: Collaborates with an inpatient nursing team to provide quality patient care.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 0-1 years related work experience required.
- Patient care experience strongly preferred through any of the following areas: CNA (or LNA), MA, ED Tech, EMT, PCT certificate or currently enrolled nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation.
- Completion of BIDMC in-house training program.
- Allied Health, Pre-Med, and Physician Assistant program candidates.
- Home Health Aide.
- Basic familiarity with computers.
- Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with a registered nurse on developing a patient's care plan.
- Develops and maintains competencies as delegated by a registered nurse.
- Maintains the safety of patients who have been identified at risk for preventable injury by the implementation of nursing safety interventions or the use of protective devices/equipment under the supervision of the registered nurse.
- Reports all patient activity to the registered nurse in a timely manner.
