About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the VIR Nurse Supervisor. Under the direct supervision of an APP, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. A Patient Care Technician’s responsibility includes measuring and documenting vital signs. They also identify patient concerns and report them to their colleagues. A Patient Care Technician’s duty also includes moving, positioning, Prepping and assisting the APP interprocedurally. An effective Patient Care Technician should have patience, empathy and intuition to serve their patients best as well as collaborate with APP for best practice. They also need good communication and organizational skills to interact with their Supervisor, APP, and fellow PCT. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Patient Care Technician I: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Patient Care Technician II: High school diploma/GED and ONE of the following requirements must be met.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree
  • At least 1 year work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS
  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
  • Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
  • Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution
  • Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
