Summary: Provides assistance with patient care activities and other tasks under the general supervision of a licensed professional staff and as directed by the unit manager. Population served based on scope of services in the department.
Requirements
- Interpersonal skills, team player
- BLS required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
Responsibilities
- Provides daily physical and emotional care to patients: ie bathing, toileting, feeding, ambulating, etc in accordance with hospital policy/procedure
- Answers call lights in a timely fashion providing assistance to patients or escalating requests/concerns to PCT or RN
- Obtains vital signs including height, weight, intake/output, and other procedures per competency
- Maintains a safe and clean environment, utilizing appropriate infection control techniques (patient room, utility room, unit)
- Assists in stocking unit with supplies
- Recognizes when to seek help from PCT and license personnel for changes in patient condition
- Demonstrates use of appropriate body mechanics
- Communicates problems to RN, charge RN or unit manager as appropriate
- Maintains patient safety through preventative measures (ie. Side rails, bed/chair alarms)
- Enhances the patient experience through attention to patient and family/visitor needs.
