About The Position

The Orthopedic & Spine Hospital (TOSH), UAMS Health’s brand-new surgical hospital, is looking for passionate patient care technicians who are ready to join a team that’s redefining quality care. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit-based team who supports the ongoing delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties that do not require a license, professional judgment, or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures, and standards, and guest care guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of the PCT course within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients and visitors with information and issues.
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
  • Obtains patient report, communicates with nursing staff regarding patient care/changes in condition.
  • Informs nurses of patient requests or complaints.
  • Documents patient care activities/tasks, including vital signs, activities of daily life (ADL), wave tests, and input and output (I&Os).
  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities.
  • Monitors and maintains adequate levels of supplies inside and outside of rooms.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examinations.
  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
  • Serves as a resource person to support department members in the performance of duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
