About The Position

The position functions as part of the dialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities include the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, patient education, monitoring treatment, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulations. The role emphasizes quality enhancement and continuous improvement in patient care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Must meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements.
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
  • Successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures.
  • Welcome assigned patients and evaluate their wellbeing since the last treatment.
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin as delegated.
  • Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
  • Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and document treatment parameters.
  • Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures and evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access.
  • Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled on dialysis machines.
  • Document all relevant patient treatment information accurately and timely.
  • Assist in training direct patient care staff under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and areas.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and document participation.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens according to specifications.
  • Support infection control practices and participate in infection control education for patients and families.
