About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Health Systems Management, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting Registered Nurses (RNs) by providing dialysis treatment to patients. This position requires a blend of technical skills and compassion to enhance patient care and outcomes. PCTs will receive on-the-job training in dialysis fundamentals and are expected to work closely with patients undergoing treatment, ensuring their safety and comfort while performing essential medical tasks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Basic computer knowledge required.
  • Must pass the Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) exam within 18 months of employment.
  • Must have or obtain Basic Life Support certification approved by the American Heart Association.
  • Excellent bedside manner and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work long hours and be on your feet for extended periods.

  • Board of Nephrology Examiners, Nursing and Technology (BONENT) certification.
  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Set up the hemodialysis machine.
  • Greet patients and collect details regarding their previous treatment, reporting any concerns to the lead nurse.
  • Assist with and prepare the patient's vascular access for treatment.
  • Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatment per written policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Obtain and document patient's vital signs before, during, and after dialysis treatment.
  • Calculate and document patient's fluid removal accurately.
  • Perform appropriate access cannulation and report any difficulties to the lead nurse.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and conduct appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Monitor the dialysis machine for malfunctions and report issues to the lead nurse.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of infection control practices, including hand washing and use of PPE.
  • Maintain patient safety and comfort, assisting with personal care needs and activities of daily living.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
