STEPPING STONES PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN SUMMARY Responsible and accountable for direct and indirect care of patients. JOB DUTIES Assists the nursing staff with the daily routine and functions of the nursing unit: ie transport to other departments of the building or accompany patient on transports for care or higher-level tests or procedures outside of the Grove St facility, pass fresh water, assists with patient personal hygiene care, activities of daily living, check and pass meal tray, answer bells. Conduct hourly rounds on assigned patients and reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the nursing staff on duty or Program Supervisor. Performs clerical duties related to the coordination of the unit and patient care. ie track work orders, add items needed for a week to the supply order list, processes supply orders or purchasing orders at the direction of the Program Supervisor or Nurse Manager, ensures that level of care status is accurate in the electronic medical record on all patients admitted within the previous 24 hours. Provides clerical direction to students and volunteers or guest speakers as needed. Confers with departments regarding scheduling of patient’s activities and procedures. Ensures that the daily count of number of days in detox or rehab status is accurate on the patient Kardex. Obtains records according to policies and procedures. Answers the phone and transfers calls regarding requests for admission or need for brief contact information to the Intake Coordinator or in that person’s absence to the program supervisor or nurses on duty. Effectively utilizes Meditech electronic health record. Assists in the admission process by helping to welcome the patient, go through belongings and inventory and document all, help with room setup as needed including keeping patient white boards up-to-date, gather scrubs and slippers for patient, assist in getting patient food if they request or require a meal. Focus on patient safety through fall reduction including acting as a sitter, helping reinforce use of call bell or redirect mildly confused patients, push patients in wheelchairs if needed, assist with transfers as needed. Obtain vital signs, weight, height, specimens, EKG’s and documents as appropriate. Cognizant of and addresses patient’s level of comfort and pain management. Expresses concern and understanding regarding patient and family satisfaction. Maintains unit and nursing station supplies of direct and indirect care items, rotate supplies to maintain all within date, add items to the list prior to their expiration so levels are adequate. Send charge cards with item stickers to the storeroom when patient is discharged. Uses security wand with patients, visitors, and any others upon entrance to the unit as per protocol and as directed. Escorts patients as directed to 12-step meetings within the building. Performs other duties as assigned.
