About The Position

The OR Support Assistant I supports the Operating Room staff by preparing case carts, maintaining supplies and equipment, and maintaining a safe and functional environment for all age groups.

Requirements

  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Completion of state recognized CNA program; or Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum or VCU/MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261 or Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses. Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinicalrotation in that area; or Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) year
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN. in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Job Duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
  • OR Support Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
  • Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs.
  • Other: describe exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances
  • Activities: Prolonged standing, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), Repetitive motion
  • Mental/Sensory: Problem solving, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking
  • Emotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent change

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months – 1 year working in an Operating Room environment strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and supplies preferred.
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
