Learn About a Day in the Life of a PCT: The Patient Care Technician collaborates with licensed nurses to support the safe and compassionate delivery of patient care in a healing environment. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the PCT performs delegated tasks and demonstrates advanced skills in providing care to age-specific patient populations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of approved CNA/PCT certification program or enrolled as a student with less than one semester left in an approved certification program or 6 months of previous experience in a specialty tech position.
  • For emergency room departments, an EMT Basic certification may substitute for CNA/PCT certification; paramedic license may fulfill certification requirements.
  • Must maintain active certification in the State of Kansas.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in acute or long-term care settings.
  • Experience in Med-Surg Nursing or Emergency Room (ER) departments.

Responsibilities

  • Recording data in accordance with policy
  • Reporting patient observations and concerns
  • Assisting with both clinical and non-clinical duties
  • Obtaining vital signs
  • Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding
  • Collecting lab specimens
  • Supporting patient monitoring
  • Completing advanced unit-based competencies and skill validations
