About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) role at Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA) is designed to support the delivery of safe and effective dialysis therapy to patients. This position involves working under the supervision of licensed nurses and includes responsibilities such as patient care, machine operation, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The PCT will also engage in customer service, ensuring a positive experience for patients and their families while adhering to FMCNA's compliance and quality standards. Extensive on-the-job training is provided, making this position accessible to individuals without prior dialysis experience.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required; must meet certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline.
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
  • Successful completion of the FMCNA dialysis training program and CPR certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in patient care roles.
  • Certification in phlebotomy or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures and disease processes.
  • Welcome patients and inquire about their well-being since their last treatment.
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and report findings to the nurse supervisor.
  • Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight, reporting any unusual findings.
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report any difficulties to the nurse supervisor.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders and monitor patients' responses during treatment.
  • Document all relevant patient treatment information accurately and timely.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and treatment areas.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and document participation.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as preparing lab requisitions and patient charts.
