About The Position

The role involves functioning as part of the hemodialysis health care team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities include the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean working environment, and participating in quality enhancement programs. The position also emphasizes outstanding customer service and effective communication with patients and healthcare team members.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must meet certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline.
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
  • Successful completion of the FMCNA dialysis training program and CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Nursing Assistant, CNA, or Phlebotomist.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures.
  • Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their well-being since their last treatment.
  • Report any complaints or observations to the nurse supervisor.
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and report any unusual findings.
  • Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
  • Perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment and report unusual findings.
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report any difficulties.
  • Administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy and report unusual findings.
  • Document all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment.
  • Evaluate patients’ vascular access during treatment and provide appropriate intervention.
  • Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics.
  • Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Prepare initial patient chart for admission and compile paperwork.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
