About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) position at Emory Healthcare is a PRN role responsible for providing essential patient care and observation under the guidance of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). The PCT plays a critical role in ensuring patient safety and comfort, performing various clinical tasks, and contributing to a supportive healing environment. This position requires working every other weekend and rotating holidays, with shifts from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • One year of direct patient care experience, successful completion of a nursing assistant training course, or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification through the state of Georgia.
  • Completion of the ENMT - Basic Certification, or currently enrolled in a nursing program and completion of 2 clinical rotations.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the State of Georgia as a Certified Nursing Assistant or patient care technician program preferred.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Registered Nurse program and have completed two clinical semesters.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN.
  • Clean the patient's room and operate various clinical equipment.
  • Assist with emergencies and patient procedures.
  • Collect and transport patient specimens and complete applicable forms.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and members of the patient care team.
  • Maintain hospital and unit-specific competencies.
  • Promote a supportive and healing environment for customer and staff satisfaction.
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed by an RN/LPN.
  • Ensure prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort, and rest are provided.
  • Comply with Standard Precautions guidelines, Infection Control procedures, and safety standards.
  • Assist in the use of medical devices and equipment such as bag-valve-mask devices, oxygen, and suction equipment.
  • Record patient intake and output.
  • Assist RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs.
  • Observe and report significant or unusual information about the patient and environment to the RN/LPN.
  • Transport patients and patient specimens throughout the hospital as needed.
  • Contribute to the completion of patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Assist with postmortem care.
  • Utilize appropriate technology to complete all related processes.
  • Participate in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement programs as required.
  • Comply with standards of care and with Department of Nursing and Hospital policies and procedures.
